Traveling with dogs and pets

Dog in the mountains

We at Torgåsgården love animals and as our guest you are warmly welcome to bring all your family members, even those with fur!

In some of the rooms, pets are welcome. We therefore ask you to tell us when booking so that you come in the right room. Pets are allowed to stay in the room and enjoy our large garden and of course swim in our own lake Motjärn. For everyone's pleasure, we ask that the dog does not disturb the farm's other guests or residents. Your pet is not allowed in the rest of the house and we ask you to keep dogs on a leash outside on the farm.

When you arrive, there is a dog bed in the room, a water bowl and a towel for wet paws to borrow and of course something good to chew on. In the room there is also information about good places and rounds to walk your dog. On the south side of the house there is both a bin for used poop bags and a water hose if you need to rinse off your dog. Dog room supplement 150,-/dog and max 2 dogs in each room.

If you are going on an adventure and your dog cannot come along, we will help you walk your dog by appointment and at an additional cost.

Welcome, both 2 & 4 legged guests.

What do I need to take with me? Packing list for winter mountain holidays

winter in the mountains

Whether you're heading down the fluffy slopes or across the wide open spaces of the ski slopes, you need to pack warm clothes, but above all you need to be smart and choose clothes that you can put on and take off using the "layer-on-layer" method. In simple terms, this means that you dress with a base layer that is tight closest to your body. You can then add a layer of fleece or wool as a second layer, and at the end you can wear shell clothing or thermal clothing depending on the weather and activity. Remember that the snow reflects the sun and it is just as easy to get a burn in the spring sun as to freeze to death on a really cold day!

Remember to pack:

  • Sunscreen
  • Cold cream
  • Blister patches/sports tape
  • Outerwear by activity
  • Winter shoes/boots

Kläppen - the best skiing for the whole family in Sälenfjällen

Kläppen best skiing for the whole family in Sälenfjällen

With its 21 lifts and 38 slopes of all different levels of difficulty, Kläppen offers skiing for the whole family. In addition, there is one of the absolute best parks, Kläppen snowpark here which is Sweden's national arena in freeski and snowboard and 2 more parks with rails, boxes and jumps during the winter season. The children's area in Kläppen is spacious with several lifts and lots of fun to see and discover. Trolle and Trolla also live here, offering lots of fun and crazy antics for the little ones.

In Kläppen there are wonderful cross-country trails in varied terrain but always of the best quality. Here we invest in well-groomed tracks of high quality with lighting and early snowmaking so that you have the opportunity to get started as early as possible. Kläppen "Älvspåret" runs about 800 m north of us at Torgåsgården and runs along the west valley river all the way to Kläppen. But if you would rather start from Kläppen or enjoy fine skiing downhill, it is only 5 by car from us at Torgåsgården.

Do you believe in ghosts?

lantern in the forest

Or maybe you've felt like you were being watched while on a walk in the woods? Has the hair ever stood up on the back of your neck or do you wonder why you never see any trolls and giants these days?

Join us on our historical hike along a centuries-old ferryboat trail and learn more about our Swedish folklore, what it was like to live in the past and why you should not pour hot water on the hill. The guided tour is about 5 km long and goes along a path and on a gravel road. Halfway we stop for coffee which is of course included in the price. The tour is suitable for children from 7 years and is equally appreciated by youth groups as conferences and foreign guests.

You need to wear suitable shoes and clothes according to the weather. We will bring everything else. The tour can be conducted in English as well as in Swedish. You need to have access to your own car to be able to get back and forth to the tour.

The tour is exciting but also offers a break. We are not in a hurry and there is time to take in nature and enjoy being outdoors. We are out for about 3 hours.

Ultravasan - The biggest challenge of the Vasaloppet

Ultravasan

Running the same distance as other skiers or cyclists is extreme in so many ways. This is a real challenge for those who love endurance and training. Together with 2500 other participants, you'll take on the classic route between Sälen and Mora, through varied landscapes, large forests and open moors.

Thanks to its location south of the start, Torgåsgården is usually a popular accommodation during all Vasaloppet races and Ultravasan is no exception. In addition to Ultravasan 90 km, Vasastaffeten is also incredibly popular and many teams stay with us in one of our 11 rooms that take 2-6 guests. With a large west-facing veranda, you can enjoy the sunset over the lake, a cold drink and a dip in the lake together with the team with us. Many choose to stay 2 nights to be rested for the journey home. If you want one of our hearty lunch boxes, it can be pre-ordered and heated in the kitchen when it suits you.

Cykelvasan - mountain biking in the footsteps of fathers

The cycling vase

When you cycle the nine miles between Sälen and Mora, you get to experience a lot. Magnificent nature, action-packed sections and historical sites. Recharge with us at Torgåsgården before the adventure and stay cozy with us in one of our 11 rooms on the farm.

Many of our guests stay here for two or three nights. That way there is plenty of time to take part in everything that happens around the start, make the final adjustments before the start and even have time to cycle in beautiful Sälenfjällen. Start your morning with us with a fresh swim in our own lake outside the door and end the day with a pre-ordered lunch box that you heat up when it suits you. Of course, you have access to our kitchen and if you prefer, you can cook your own food. Bed linen, shower towel and cleaning of the room are always included when you rent from us.

Does 9 miles seem a bit long? You do know that there are several variants of the classic cycle route! Then maybe Cykelvasan 45 or 30 is more suitable. Read more at vasaloppet.se

Vasaloppet - full board for the whole group

Ski trails in snow

Vasaloppet always takes place on the first Sunday in March each year. From the start in Berga village, just south of Sälen, the 9-mile race heads towards Mora. It is the world's largest long-distance ski race and the world's most fun weekend at Torgåsgården. With us, our guests stay comfortably in shared rooms and with full board. Our Vasalopp package extends from Friday to Sunday with the possibility of an extra night for Monday.

The package includes dinner on Friday evening, breakfast, lunch and dinner with dessert on Saturday and of course really early breakfast served already at 04.00 on Sunday morning. At the door on the way out, we leave bags of food for our guests to eat before the start or to save for later. Of course, you are welcome to book an extra night if you want to stay overnight until Monday. In that case, we will make sure that there is a lunch box to warm up when you get home after the race and breakfast bag to eat in peace and quiet when it suits. In other words, no stress!

Of course, bed linen and shower towel are included and we clean after departure.
